Every year Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Kashmir to show support with India’s illegally occupied Kashmiri brethren and to pay rich tribute to Kashmiri martyrs who have been sacrificing their lives for decades.
The history of the Kashmir issue is traced back to when British India was divided into two independent states but the princely states were given the right to choose either India or Pakistan. Kashmir was one of them. Kashmir was under the reign of Maharaja Hari Sing at that time maharaja signed an instrument of accession with India in exchange for saving his life and gave the right to India to claim Kashmir as its territory Pakistan did not agree because Kashmir was a Muslim-majority state. Then the UN intervened and recommended a plebiscite. The plebiscite was promised by India’s first Prime Minister Nehru but it was never held Despite the 18 resolutions that have been passed by the Security Council but not even a single one has been implemented yet.
This tradition began in the 1990s to support the Kashmiri freedom movement which was proposed by Qazi Hussain Ahmed the leader of Jamat-e-Islami. It was officially adopted by the government of Pakistan during the reign of Benazir Bhutto in the 1990s to highlight the plight of Kashmiris on the international level.
It is an internationally recognized day that is marked by special prayers, and peaceful protests throughout the country and internationally as well however, the right to self-determination is a fundamental principle of international law but unfortunately, it is not rendered to the people of Kashmir.
India’s illegally-occupied Kashmir is one of the most militarized zones in the world where the people of Kashmir are consonantly suffering from the atrocities of Indian soldiers in every walk of life their offspring are being starved, raped, and killed. This shows the plight of the Kashmiri people and their dilapidated state.
The Kashmir special status was revoked on 5th August 2019 which is an obtrusive violation of international law. Pakistan is constantly raising its voice against the atrocities of India regarding Kashmir on various international platforms urging global powers to show support and solidarity with the people of Kashmir and prevent India which has been doing its shameless deeds for decades without any fear.
In this digital era, everyone has access to the internet. They should contribute to this struggle to counter misinformation that India has been spreading for many years and bring global attention to this serious issue which is a clear violation of human rights.
